Frequently Asked Questions that you can't easily find on our site
Is there year round access? Yes, roads
are plowed in the winter but you still need 4x4. If members of your group don't have 4 wheel drive there are lots available
to park at, permits required.
How far is Park City / Sundance? Sundance is 30 minutes,
Park City is 30 minutes from the bottom of Timberlakes. City limits are sage brush, so I think when people want to know
how far away Park City is they mena the shops, dining, old town... and many cabins will tell you they are 20 minutes to Park
City, well they must have a helipad and included service. We are 5 minutes to the bottom of Timber Lakes, so 35 minutes to
Old Town.
Can we walk through the cabin before hand? About twice a
year we get this request, meaning you are one of the 4% of people who want to see the cabin in person in advance. Yes, you
can schedule this, it is $100 to do so, nonrefundable. Since no one lives at the cabin full time it takes some doing
to give you a walk-through, plan when it is clean, unbooked, agent being available.... For the other 96% of our guests
the photos have done fine.
Where is
the cabin?
We have a page about this, we are about 9 miles due east of Heber City Utah up Lake Creek Canyon on the mountain at 7600ft
in the aspen trees; we are in a gated private area called Timber Lakes. We send directions 2 weeks before you arrive,
for security reasons we do not give out the location on our website.
How far from... SLC
is 55 min, 65 to SLC airport, 45 to Provo, 30 to Park City downtown, 12 hours to the beach. Times vary with snow, Utah
drivers, Heber cattle drives... Midway is 20 minutes, Sundance is 30ish depending on roads.
Can we do the cleaning? Sure,
but we do this a little different. Since your idea of clean may not match the net group you clean on entry... meaning you
clean up the cabin from the previous group, it still is about $25 as you will need to use our supplies and utilities, but
yes, you can get out of about $120 of the cleaning charge, and spend hours cleaning the place and doing laundry... so
why are you coming on vacation? you can stay home and do all of that!
How many bedrooms? We have
2 masters, 2 additional bedrooms and a kid's loft (5ft ceiling and pulldown stair access) Pull out beds are in other areas
as well like in the kitchen, the fridge is also a murphy bed.... just kidding.
Where
can we Waterski, Golf, Horseback ride...? We have
two local areas for waterskiing, both about 20 min away, Jordanelle Res and Deer Creek Res; Jordanelle has a full rental shop
of everything you can think of; as for Jen or Bart, they rock. Golf: Wasatch resort is 2o min and one of the best in the nation,
horseback riding is in Heber, 10-15 away.
What is the Heber Creeper? Ya, Heber
has a train you can ride on with your kids... it's a fun time in the summer, for the first 10 minutes. Then it is a noisy,
bumpy ride that will be memorable, that's all I am saying. They also sell tickets in the winter, the same train, poorly
if at all heated and if you ask me, very overpriced... if is duely named the "Polar Express". Your kid better
LOVE trains and you had better really love winter on that one... all aboard!
Is
there Fishing/ Boating? Loaded question, read the Timber Lakes area page, too lengthy for here. Deer Creek and Jordanelle
reservoirs are 20min away, lots of natioinal forest water is about 10 min away, World class fishing on the Provo River in
town is 15 min away as well. In Timber Lakes is "007 fishing".
Do you
accept pets? Only pets that do not excerete
waste, usually stuffed with foam
pellets. Seriously, we tried it, with all of the wildlife passing the cabin at night pets go nuts. If you have a seeing
eye dog call us to talk about it, you need to have the paperwork; otherwise give yourself a better nights sleep and leave
rover with the inlaws.
Do we bring bedding? No,
see our amenitiies page, you are well hooked up when you stay with us. Bedding towels, sheets... you can even use our communal
toothbrushes- kidding.
Can we camp
outside? Yes, we recomend keeping it to the deck though, I'd hate for a 1800 pound moose to leave your kiddo
with a new hoof tatoo.
How many people can lay down on your floor? I have actually been asked that, I have no idea... ommmmmmmm
Do
you have cable or sat? No,
we don't get regular TV either, but we get ROKU channels; this is a mix of weather, Netflix, sat radio, games, pay-per-view,
sports, etc. They host about 40 channels over the internet, all of our TVs have Roku.
Do you have a hot tub? Yes, and we just upgraded
to a 6+ person tub. It has a view of the stars, is very close to the door (no 100m sprint in Jan)
Rental Car questions: So if you
are coming in the winter, you will need to rent a 4x4, below is some guest supplied info on that, just know that in the winter
ski season you need to reserve these in advance as rental car companies SELL OUT of 4 wheel drive. We have been referred
to Rugged Rentals in SLC, they supposedly do great deals.
Can we have a WEDDING?: Wow, 8 times I year I say this, so here it
is on our site... You can, we have hosted a few weddings, we mostly try to talk you out of it. We DO host several honeymooners
each year, they LOVE it and then refer their friends, it's a growing side business for us...
WHY NOT TO HAVE A WEDDING AT A REMOTE IDYLLIC CABIN:
- This is mountain turf: Heels don't work, a flowing dess will
be a sticker magnet as well will be satin tuxes; jeans and hiking boots for everyone?
- Parking: Yes we park a lot, but do you really only want a total head count of 32
including caterers, photographers, planner, servers, staff and guests?
- Food prep: Don't make you relatives cook for you, let them enjoy the wedding; there is only
ONE kitchen and it is not made for cooking for an army.
- Catering:
Caterers/contractors go to a same school teaching them to be late and get lost. In an area with poor cell coverage and worse
street signage can you handle it 2hrs late? How abot 4? Worse yet, the GROOM missed the turn and ended up in Wyoming...
- Weather: If you end up trying to do this inside (picture your June
wedding with 10 inches of surprise snow) then the cabin turns into a circus clown car as you cram everyone and everything
inside... totally "memorable".
What we DO recommend is host the families dinner
the night before at the cabin, get married the next day at a proper venue in town with catering, parking, a string quartet
and a planner, then drive 15min back to the cabin and let the honeymoon begin!
